Private day trip to Essaouira beach and Argan fields
Departing from your accommodation in Marrakech at 8:00 AM, this day trip to Essaouira will give you the chance to explore one of Morocco's most captivating coastal cities. About 2.5 hours away by car, Essaouira is a city rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. Once called Mogador by merchants and Western sailors, Essaouira was historically home to a significant Jewish population, making it a unique blend of Arab, Jewish, and European influences.
The Medina of Essaouira, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is full of charm, with its narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and vibrant markets. Your guide (if included) will take you on a tour, sharing the city's fascinating history and showing you the best of what it has to offer. Essaouira’s beaches are known for their beautiful sandy stretches, perfect for swimming and surfing. Local boys play football and surf along the coastline, while beach owners offer camel rides and quad biking for an exciting way to explore the area.
Essaouira is also famous for its cooler climate, making it a perfect escape from the heat of the city. Along the way, you will be able to enjoy the stunning landscapes of the surrounding countryside. The city is renowned for its Argan oil production, wooden crafts, and the annual Gnaoua Music Festival, which attracts over 300,000 visitors in June. The festival celebrates Gnaoua music, a fusion of ancient African, Islamic, and spiritual rhythms
In addition to its natural beauty, Essaouira offers a range of cultural experiences. The Skala du Port, a historic Portuguese fortress, provides panoramic views over the fishing harbor. Stroll through the souks in the Medina, where you can find an array of spices, jewelry, and handmade goods. Seafood lovers can indulge in fresh catches at the local harbor-side restaurants.
If you're interested in art, Essaouira is home to numerous art galleries showcasing local and international artists. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Mellah (the Jewish quarter), the Cemetery, and the Synagogue, where you’ll learn about Essaouira’s Jewish heritage. At one time, Jews made up nearly 40% of the city's population, and the Mellah remains a symbol of this rich cultural history.
Additionally, on the way to Essaouira, we’ll stop at one of the best Argan Oil Women’s Cooperatives in Morocco. These cooperatives, located just before Essaouira, offer a fascinating glimpse into the traditional methods of producing this iconic oil.
After exploring Essaouira, we will begin our return journey to Marrakech, departing at around 4:30 or 5:00 PM to ensure you have ample time to relax and enjoy the city. We expect to arrive back in Marrakech by approximately 7:30 PM, where we will drop you off at your accommodation, bringing the trip to an end.
